BULLET ROADSTER SS V8
: Photographs and information

Latest Update on the Bullet Roadster (September 2004)

After many hours, weeks and months of hard labour, Tom and the team at Bullet Cars have put together one of the most awesome supercharged adrenalin pumping Bullet Cars ever built.  Built as a hard top for the track, Tom believes that it is possible to have this car competing at Bathurst 2005.

As seen at the Brisbane International Motor Show 2004

The development team at Bullet Cars are currently building a race version of the popular SSV8.

Intensive research and development is constantly being undertaken by Bullet Performance Products in order to get the race model of the Bullet ready for the race track.  Thursday (August 5, 2004) saw the proto-race model being put through a tough workout at the Holden Development Track south of Brisbane.  Constant measuring and computer calculations provided essential data which will allow the Bullet to be taken to the next phase.  Paul Morris, a successful competitor with the V8 Supercar Series was on hand to provide some added expertise.  Below are a number of photographs of the BULLET Roadster Race Model going through its paces.

Not only have Bullet Performance Products produced an outstanding performance sports car, but they have also been able to capture one of the most eye-catching, head-turning  finishes seen on a motor vehicle.  Look and drool.

Devastating Power (Raw Muscle)

Forget the European imported sports car and consider an Australian alternative. Australia has a high performance locally built sports car that will rival any competitor, with full Australian Design Rule (ADR) approval.  Built in Brisbane, the Bullet Roadster SS V8 was developed over 6 years and is one of the fastest (power to weight ratio) street legal motor vehicles to roll onto Australian roads.  What’s more, (some might argue that power and speed are all that counts) is that the price is friendlier on the bank balance than the European competitors.

The Bullet supercar was on display at the recent Brisbane International Motor Show 2004.  After viewing the show, one might say that this was just another motor show with the major motor car companies not revealing any new concepts that weren’t on display last year.  However, reports from spectators highlight the interest the Bullet received with comments like – ‘if it wasn’t for the Bullet, this show would have been boring’.   One only had to watch the interest this vehicle generated.

Under the hood, the Bullet Roadster SS V8 has a 32 valve, quad cam 4.0 litre Lexus V8 coupled with the Sprintex S90 Supercharger.  Although Toyota might supply the Lexus V8, the engine is stripped down and reassembled once modifications have been made to the motor.   Modifications include revised camshafts and stronger pistons.  The supercharger comes from the Perth-based Advanced Engine Components (AEC).

The Bullet is made at the Yatala plant located mid way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.  At the plant, a full length box subframe chassis is manufactured, and in order to pull up the power of the Lexus V8, Brembo four-pot brakes coupled with the 330mm sized discs are amazing as the test demonstrated.  Once assembled and ready to go, the Bullet weighs a mere 1220 kg, has a wheelbase of 2332mm and packs a massive 320 kW on the supercharged model and 225 kW on the naturally aspirated model.  Peak torque is an incredible 575 Newton metres at 3650 rpm in conjunction with the five-speed Borg Warner gearbox.

The big question that every driver / owner wants to know however is how does it handle on the track? Having driven a number of vehicles over the years, I would have to say that the Bullet holds to the road like superglue or like a car on a roller-coaster track.  The 18-inch ROH wheels probably help, but the Bullet is so well balanced that you hardly realise that you are moving at speeds in excess of 250 kph.  Cornering was incredible.  At the end of the main straight at Darlington Park, a sharp right hardly seems to test the Bullet.  S-bends and hairpin corners are no effort for the Bullet.

On the road, the Bullet turns heads.  At the local garage when filling up with fuel, half a dozen people stop to ask what this car is.  After testing at the track, we stopped for lunch at the Yatala Pie Shop, and everyone that walked passed this car stopped to have a good look at this impressive piece of machinery.  I would have to say also that this car is a joy to drive.  You can sit in the car and the stream-lining allows you to wear a hat without it being blow away.  The seats are a racing style bucket, and comfortable enough that you don’t give the seats a second thought.

The Bullet is an exciting piece of motoring machinery made in Australia.  If you are in the market for a European sports car and can afford to pay $300,000, why not consider the Bullet as you can get two Bullets for the price of one European sports car.
